Our Identity
The Story Behind the Name
C + agua + X
Taíno Cacique of Turabo, Puerto Rico
Long before the island was known as Puerto Rico, the lush valley of Turabo was home to a Taíno people led by Cacique Caguax. He governed the territory that would one day become the city of Caguas — a city that carries his name to this day, more than five centuries later.
Caguax lived during the turbulent early period of Spanish colonization in the 1500s, a time of profound upheaval for the Taíno people of Borikén. While much of his personal history has been lost to time, his enduring mark on the island is undeniable — the name Caguas itself is a direct phonetic echo of the man who once called that valley home.
For us, Caguax represents something greater than history — he represents roots. The idea that identity and origin are worth honoring, even as you move forward into unknown territory. That is the spirit CWaterX was built on.
